The Process

Hand-making tiles is, by definition, a labour intensive and skilled process
Mixing the clay

The clay is manufactured by a specialist supplier to an established formula: producing durable, frost-proof tiles

Tiles are extruded into the required shape and  air bubbles removed from the clay: an essential requirement  to avoid explosions in the kiln during the firing process
They are then hand cut, whilst still soft
 Cut into batches of six, they are laid out to dry, as below


Once dry, the edges are filed smooth
The glazes are mixed in the pottery to specific formulae
